Henry Frederick Schotte was born in September 1894 in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company K, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Private Schotte met his death in the assault at Chateau Thierry, a shell bursting in the middle of a platoon of 32 men, killing all but eight on July 20, 1918. He was 23 years of age at tht time. He is now buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PVT H F SCHOTTS.
