When Roland Clay Winchenbach was born on July 15, 1901, in Jacksonville, Florida, his father, Everan, was 52 and his mother, Ramie, was 29. He had three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on May 29, 1918 at the age of 16 and is now buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Norfolk City, Virginia, USA. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument as PVT R WINCHENBACK.
