Elbert Curtis Baker was born on September 28, 1891. He prepared for college at the Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn., and entered Cornell in 1911, receiving his A. B. degree in 1915. He returned to the University in the fall of 1915, taking a special course in chemistry, and received the degree of B. Chem., in 1916.
After his graduation, he became associated with the Baker Chemical Company, of Easton, Pa., of which his father was head, and soon after the war was declared, he entered a training camp at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., where he was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the Infantry Reserve Corps. He was assigned to Company E, 371st Infantry Regiment and was stationed at Camp Jackson, Columbia, SC until he went overseas.
He died on September 30, 1918 and is now buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
