George Frederick Ratzlaff was born on May 17, 1894. He was one of the family of ten children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ratzlaff. He was born in the Harvard, Illinois, and lived there until the family moved to South Dakota. He was working as a farm employee in North Dakota when he enlisted in Ellendale, ND. He reached France early in January 1917. He was Killed in Action on May 28, 1918 and is now buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Harvard, McHenry County, Illinois, USA. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument as PVT G RATZLEFF.
