When William Bryan Mashburn was born on July 9, 1895, his father, Joseph, was 33 and his mother, Minnie, was 34. He had two brothers and two sisters. He entered the service on December 10, 1916. He was attached to Company K, 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. After several months of service on the Mexican Border, Corporal Mashburn was transferred to Hoboken, N. J., and later sailed for France, where he contracted pneumonia, which resulted in his death on May 21, 1918. He is now buried in Walnut Cemetery, Unadilla, Dooly County, Georgia, USA.
