When William H. Hornby was born on January 13, 1897, in Fall River, Massachusetts, his father, Joseph, was 32 and his mother, Esther, was 22. He had three brothers and three sisters. In 1900 he was lived in Fall River, MA with his family, and siblings: John, Joseph, and Jane. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company B, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 30, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
