When Boyd S. Crawford was born on February 3, 1883, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his father, John, was 32 and his mother, Emma, was 20. He married Nelle Florence Briney on October 25, 1905, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. They had two children during their marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a First Lieutenant in Company D, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 28, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
