When Louie H. Campbell was born in October 1889 in South Carolina, his father, Marion, was 28 and his mother, Louisa, was 26. He married Josephine Eva Willingham in 1907. They had two children during their marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Battery D, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was declared "Missing in Action" on September 30, 1918 and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, Suresnes American Cemetery, Suresnes, France.
