When Owen Caplinger was born on June 27, 1894, his father, Charles, was 36 and his mother, Etta, was 29. He had four brothers and six sisters. He served in he U.S. Army during the World War I as a Private in I Company, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 23, 1918 and is now buried in Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial, Belleau, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France.
