Rudolph B. Kaminski was assigned to the 357th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group in 1944. During his stay in this unit, he won one confirmed victory in aerial combat and destroyed a plane in the air. On March 29, 1944, he participated in a Ramrod on Brunswick between 11:24 and 16:09. An encounter with 50 Fw 190 resulted in 14 German aircraft destroyed in air combat and two on the ground. Lieutenant Kaminski claimed one of the Fw 190s shot that day.
On April 5, 1944, he participated in a Sweep mission on Munich and its environs between 12:47 and 18:20. During this operation, the group destroyed 51 enemy aircraft, probably 2 and damaged 81 machines, a new record for the European theater. 42 pilots shot down at least one plane during this mission. Among them is Lieutenant Kaminski. He was finally killed in action on May 1, 1944 in command of the P-51B (43-6648) OS B, shot by Me 109 near Metz.
He is now buried in Lorraine American Cemetery,St Avold, France.
