Comments:

Sellers S. Hardee was born on November 22, 1921. He was the second son of Walter Robert and Bessie S. Hardee was assigned to the 357th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group in 1944. During his stay in this unit, he destroyed 2 ground aircraft before he was severely wounded in an accident on 26 February 1945 in command of the P-51D (44-14402). His flight had returned from from a 6 and 1/2 hour mission from over Germany but his aircraft suffered a mechanical failure and engine power loss short of the airfield and he was forced to make an emergency landing in a field which resulted in a crash. He was critically injured but survived until March 10th 1945. He was survived by a widow Anne and a daughter Patricia, both now deceased. He is buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton, South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England. He also has a marker at Meltons Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Appling County, Georgia, USA.
