"AKRON BEACON JOURNAL
Akron, OH
Sunday, 1 October 1944
For three months Mrs. Betty Maguire, a widow, had worried because she received no news from her son, who had been fighting in the signal corps in Italy for a year. She did not even know he had been sent to the battle front in France until the tragic news came that he had died there Aug. 27.
Maguire was a buddy of P.F.C. Robert Julllerat who yesterday was listed as wounded in action on the same front. He also went overseas with Pvt. Paul Ross, who today is listed as having escaped from the Germans.
Maguire worked at the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. printing department before going into the army.
He leaves two brothers, Sergeant Paul, who is home on emergency furlough, and Seaman Second Class William, serving on a destroyer in the Pacific. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. William Patton."
He was also honored on the Avenue of Memories at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The Avenue of Memories moved to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland when Fort Monmount closed in 2011.
