Frank Bruno “Mussy” Pologruto was born on February 26, 1925, in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey. He was the son of Giovanni ""John"" Pologruto and Elizabeth Pologruto. When the United States entered World War II, Pologruto was a student at Phillipsburg High School and was preparing to begin his senior year. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at Newark, New Jersey, on July 28, 1943, and was assigned as a Private First Class to Company A, 179th Engineer Combat Battalion.

On August 23, 1944, during the assault crossing of the Seine River near Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry, France, Pologruto was killed in action when an enemy artillery shell struck his company's half-track. He is now buried in the Saint Philip and Saint James Cemetery, Greenwich Township, Warren County, New Jersey, USA.
