Marshall R. Carpenter served as a Sergeant for the 134th Infantry Regiment during World War II. He died in France in August of 1944. Although he is currently buried in Brittany, SGT Carpenter was initially buried in the temporary cemetery at Villeneuve-sur-Auvers, France, where Carpenter and hundreds of other Americans were temporarily buried during the war. Today, there is a memorial at the site of where this cemetery used to be honoring these men, as well as some German and French soldiers who were also buried there.
