James F. Carlin served as a Staff Sergeant for the 315th Infantry Regiment during World War II in Europe. He died in France in August of 1944. Although he is buried in Brittany, S/SGT Carlin was initially buried in the temporary American cemetery at Villeneuve-sur-Auvers, France, along with hundreds of other Americans. Today, there is a memorial at the site of the temporary cemetery commemorating S/SGT Carlin and all those buried there in 1944-45.
