Frank R. Gerrity was born on July 1, 1920. He was the son of James Ambrose Gerrity and Katherine Gaffney Gerrity. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and the University of Scranton, which he attended on a basketball scholarship, and Georgetown Law School. He spent 26 years working for the FBI. Copilot of the B-25 Liberator 41-29244 “Double Trouble” that took off from Gioia del Colle, Italy on a mission to bomb the German Messerschmitt aircraft factory by Regensburg. Shot down by anti-aircraft fire over Slovenia. Five crew members went down with the plane and five parachuted from the severely damaged aircraft. Gerrity survived the crash and was taken prisoner in the Stalag Luft 1 near Barth, Prussia where he remained until the end of the war.
