2nd Lt Max Kenneth Graham, pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt 42-26269, took off from station 157 in Raydon, Suffolk, UK on a mission over Rambouillet. He was hit by antiaircraft fire over Rambouillet. Lt McGinis, one of his wingmen, was escorting him to a beach strip to land but his flaming engine exploded, killing him instantly. McGinis died from antiaircraft fire while covering his landing.
