2nd Lt Albert Luther Collins, bombardier of the B-26 Marauder 42-107574, took off from station 169 in Stansted Mountfitchet , Essex, UK on a bombing mission over Valognes. However, they came under heavy anti-aircraft fire and were hit. The plane exploded on contact with the ground at 0735. Lt.Collins was originally buried with SSgt Joseph Gisavage on June 12th 1944 as UNK.X53 and UNK.X45 at the U.S.Military Cemetery in Blossville, France. In March 1949 they were disinterred and reprocessed through a Central Identification Laboratory in Europe by qualified anthropologists, dental and laboratory technicians before being sent back to their respective families.
