2nd Lt Robert F. Doty, pilot of the P-38 Lightning 42-67659, took off from station 454 Warmwell, Dorset, UK on an armed reconnaissance in the Avranches region. The plane was damaged either by automatic weapons fire or its own bomb, causing Doty to eject at 1500 feet at 1430. He did not survive.
