1st Lt Joseph Lyndon Piche, pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt 42-75461, was returning from a bombing mission over Le Mans when he was hit by AA fire. Wounded, he tried to land in a field but lost consciousness and clipped a tree. The plane crashed in flames.
