F/O Thomas G. Baum, co-pilot of the B24 42-40738 “The Oklahoman”, took off from Station 114 Hetel, Norfolk, UK on a bombing mission over Cognac. The plane suffered a direct hit from AA fire and exploded in mid-flight at 1208. Only the pilot survived.
