Roger Lee was born on February 2, 1984, in Monterey, Monterey County, California. He was the son of Yen Chih Lee and the husband of Elvina Lee. He graduated from Monterey High School, where he participated in Air Force ROTC. He later attended the Arizona Automotive Institute in Glendale, Arizona. Before joining the U.S. Army, he worked in security at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, based in Hohenfels, Germany, and was later deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Spc Lee was killed on July 6, 2010, near Qalat, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle during an insurgent attack. He is now buried in the Monterey City Cemetery, Monterey, Monterey County, California, USA.
