Ewing Benton Boggs was born on November 28, 1918, in Lynch, Harlan County, Kentucky. He was the son of Henry Benton Boggs and Minnie Bell Gilbert Boggs. He was married to Vida Louise Carter McMillion. He served in Company E, 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division, as a Technician 4th Grade and driver of a Sherman tank during World War II.

On September 20, 1944, T4 Boggs and PFC Popovitch were killed in action near Ley when their tank was destroyed by enemy tank fire. According to their tank commander, Capt. James Herbert Leach, Boggs was serving as the driver and Popovitch as the assistant driver of the Sherman Blockbuster. During the engagement, Leach attempted to move the tank into cover while Boggs and Popovitch remained inside. The Sherman was subsequently struck and destroyed, killing both men.

T4 Boggs is now buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in Saint-Avold, Département de la Moselle, Lorraine, France.
