Joseph �Joe� Graczykowski Jr. was born on December 15, 1918, in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He was the son of Joseph Jacob Graczykowski and Pelagia T. Malak Graczykowski. He was married to Bernice Georgette Lipa Triplett. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 13, 1942, at Camp Perry, Ohio, and served as a Private with Battery C, 979th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II.

On September 27, 1944, he was killed in action together with Private Weir at Sweikhuizen (then in the municipality of Nuth), Limburg, Netherlands, when a 155 mm cannon exploded after a shell detonated inside its barrel. A subsequent investigation concluded that defective detonators were the likely cause. He is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial, Henri-Chapelle, Arrondissement de Verviers, Li�ge, Belgium.
