Florimon Abubo "Boxer" Gacad was born on December 5, 1958, in Baguio City, Philippines, and enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1981. Specializing in naval aviation maintenance, he served for 30 years before retiring in January 2011. During his distinguished career, he attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO), serving as an Aviation Fire Controlman Master Chief (AFCM) and earning both the Aviation Warfare (AW) and Surface Warfare (SW) qualifications. His assignments included Recruit Training Command in San Diego, California; Naval Air Technical Training Center in Millington, Tennessee; Fleet Replacement Aviation Maintenance Program squadrons VF-124 and VA-128; VF-24; VA-115 aboard the USS Midway (CV-41); HSL-51 in Atsugi, Japan; HSL-37 at Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii; Naval Weapons Test Squadron; VAW-112; VX-30 at Point Mugu, California; and VX-31 at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California. He also completed the Senior Enlisted Academy.
