Major John Hampton Luckadoo was the last survivor of the "Bloody Hundredth 100 Bomb Group". He was born on March 16, 1922 in Chattanooga Tennessee. He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. As a member of the inaugural group assigned to the 100th Bomb Group, he was one of only four copilots out of his class of 40 to complete a full tour of 25 combat missions in a B-17F bomber named "SUNNY II". He started off as a copilot & concluded his service as the pilot. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (USAF), Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters (USAF), Presidential Unit Citation (USAF) & The Victory Medal (USAF). His unit's experiences are the subject of the 2024 Apple TV+ television miniseries "Masters of the Air". Major Luckadoo was the last survivor of the 100th Bomb Group also known as "The Bloody 100th". The last member of the Bloody 100 to pass away.
