Akeji Morinaga was born on January 15, 1925, in Lahaina, Maui County, Hawaii. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and later served with the occupation forces in Japan before being reassigned to combat duty during the Korean War. He served in Company K, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, as a Corporal and Foreman Warehouse during the conflict.

Cpl Morinaga was Killed in Action on September 12, 1950, when a reconnaissance patrol near Hill 300, west of Kyongju, South Korea, was ambushed by North Korean forces. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
