Francis Louis Swanson was born on November 27, 1923, in New Britain, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Paul A. Swanson and Florine Julia DeLoy Swanson. He worked in a metal factory before enlisting in the service on March 19, 1943. He served in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.
PFC Swanson was Killed in Action on September 18, 1944, during the liberation of Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.
