Robert Joseph Modracek was born on September 15, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa. He was the son of Frank L. Modracek and Emma Mary Kadera Modracek. He served in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Modracek was Killed in Action on September 18, 1944, during the liberation of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He is now buried in the Shueyville Cemetery, Shueyville, Johnson County, Iowa, USA.
