Walter Summerton was born in February 1886 in Crystal City, Jefferson County, Missouri. He was the son of John Summerton and Annis E Summerton. He served in the 46th Battalion, Australian Infantry, as a Private during World War I.
Pvt Summerton died on October 28, 1918, from influenza while on a working detail as a prisoner of war in Sennelager in Westfalen, Germany. He is now buried in the Friedhof Niederzwehren, Niederzwehren, Stadtkreis Kassel, Hessen, Germany.
