Louis Ochevsky was born on May 16, 1923, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He served in the 700th Bomb Squadron, 445th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Waist Gunner of B-24J #42-95210 during World War II.
On September 27, 1944, B-24J #42-95210 departed RAF Tibenham, England, as part of the U.S. Eighth Air Force mission to bomb industrial targets at Kassel, Germany. After successfully reaching the target area and releasing its bombs, the bomber joined the return flight toward England. Still, the 445th Bomb Group became separated from the main bomber stream because of a navigational error. Isolated and lacking sufficient fighter escort, the formation was attacked by large numbers of German Luftwaffe fighters. During the intense aerial combat, B-24J 42-95210 sustained severe damage from enemy fire and was forced down, crashing in Germany with the loss of crew members.
SSgt Ochevsky died from his wounds received in battle and is now buried in the Home of Peace Memorial Park, East Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA.
