On September 27, 1944, B-24 #44-10497 was lost while operating with a U.S. Army Air Forces heavy bombardment unit in the European Theater. Like many B-24s engaged in strategic bombing operations over German-controlled territory, the aircraft was destroyed during combat, most likely as a result of enemy fighter interception or anti-aircraft fire encountered on a bombing mission.

FO Henrikson was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial, Neuville-en-Condroz, Arrondissement de Liège, Liège, Belgium.
