Kalin Christopher Lee Johnson was born on May 9, 1991, in Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina. He was the son of Brenton Christopher Johnson and Ronda Kay Johnson. He graduated from Lexington High School and enlisted in the service in 2009. He served in G Company, 3d Squadron, 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment, as a Private First Class stationed in Vilseck, Germany, and was later deployed in Afghanistan.

PFC Johnson died on March 8, 2011, in Rangrizan, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained in a non-combat incident during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is now buried in the Bush River Memorial Gardens, Columbia, Lexington County, South Carolina, USA.
