Conrado Javier “Cabo” Diaz Jr. was born on May 21, 1991, in Monterey County, California. He had joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Seaside High School in 2009. He was in Army Junior ROTC in high school. He served as a Private First Class and Cavalry Scout in I Co, 3d Squadron, 2d Cavalry Stryker Regiment, stationed at Vilseck, Germany, and was later deployed to Afghanistan.

PFC Javier was Killed in Action on December 19, 2010, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is now buried in the San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey, Monterey County, California, USA. A portion of State Highway 218 between the junction of State Route 68 in the City of Del Rey Oaks and the junction of State Highway 1 in the City of Seaside is designated as the “United States Army Private First Class Conrado D. Javier Memorial Highway.”
