Daren Miguel Hidalgo was born on March 4, 1986, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was the son of Jorge and Andrea Hidalgo. After graduating from Dallastown Area High School in Pennsylvania in 2005, Daren went on to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 2009. He completed additional training before deploying overseas. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and served as an 11A Infantry Officer with G Company, 3d Squadron, 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment, stationed in Vilseck, Germany, and was later deployed to Afghanistan.

1Lt Hidalgo was Killed in Action on February 20, 2011, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is now buried in the United States Military Academy Post Cemetery, West Point, Orange County, New York, USA.
