Randy W. Pickering was born on December 1, 1976, in Victorville, San Bernardino County, California. After attending Pleasant Hill High School in 1995, he earned his equivalency certificate and later completed a college degree in computer programming. He served as a Specialist with E Troop, 2d Squadron, 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment, stationed in Vilseck, Germany, and was deployed to Iraq.
Spc Pickering died on December 9, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained in a non-combat-related incident during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His remains were cremated.
