Gilberto Alejandro Meza was born on March 27, 1986, in Ventura, Ventura County, California. He was the son of Silvia Martinez. He entered Oxnard High School in 2000 before transferring to Channel Islands High School, Frontier High School, and later completing the Oxnard Union High School District’s GED program in 2004. He enlisted in the service in October 2005. He served as a Corporal and an Infantryman with G Company, 3d Squadron, 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment, stationed in Vilseck, Germany, and was later deployed in Iraq.

Cpl Meza was Killed in Action on October 6, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is now buried in the Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard, Ventura County, California, USA.
