Jason Nicholas Marchand was born on April 8, 1981, in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. He was married to April Marchand. He graduated from Doddridge County High School in 2000. Before deploying to Iraq, he was stationed in Germany for two years, serving as a Corporal and Infantryman with I Company, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany. He later deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl Marchand was Killed in Action on October 5, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their unit during combat operations. He is now buried in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, Ada County, Idaho, USA.
