Michael Thomas Lilly was born on May 31, 1984, in Boise, Ada County, Idaho. He was the son of Vicky Egbert and John Lilly. He was married to Miseda Mazile. Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army in the summer of 2002 and completed Basic and Infantry Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. From 2003 to 2004, he served as a Specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry at Camp Howze, South Korea. Promoted to Sergeant in 2004, he was assigned as an infantryman to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry at Fort Lewis, Washington. From 2006 to 2008, Michael served as a Sergeant with the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany. He deployed to Iraq twice, with his second deployment beginning in August 2007.

Sgt Lilly was Killed in Action on April 7, 2008, when insurgents fired a rocket-propelled grenade in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is now buried in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, Ada County, Idaho, USA.
