Linda Carol Jimenez was born on July 8, 1964, in New York County, New York. She was the daughter of Angelo Cruz. After graduating from Richmond Hill High School, she went to secretarial school, working various secretarial jobs until she enlisted in the army in 1991. She held the rank of Staff Sergeant and served as a Human Resources Specialist with the 2d Squadron Combat Support Aviation (Maintenance), 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and was later deployed in Iraq.

On October 31, 2003, SSgt Jimenez was injured after falling into a hole while running to keep pace with friends in Baghdad. She received initial treatment at the 28th Combat Support Hospital and was later evacuated to Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center in Germany before being transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where she died on November 8. She had originally been scheduled to return home in September, but her return date was postponed to October and then to November. She is now buried in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, USA.
