Clayton Welch Henson was born on August 25, 1983, in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas. He graduated from Stanton High School and joined the Army after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He held the rank of Private First Class and served as an Indirect Fire Infantryman with A Troop, 1st Squadron, 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Polk, Louisiana, before deploying to Iraq.

PFC Henson was killed on April 17, 2004, after his convoy was ambushed in Diwaniyah, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, just one day after he was originally scheduled to return home before his tour was extended by three months. He is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Stanton, Martin County, Texas, USA.
