Robert Luke DuSang was born on July 22, 1979, in Lafayette, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Betty Jane Jennings and Donald du Sang, Sr. He was married to Brandy DuSang. His interest in military service began at Mandeville High School, where he participated in the United States Marine Corps Junior ROTC and was an active member of the Drill Team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduating. He served as a Specialist and Cannon Crewmember assigned to Howitzer Battery, 1st Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He had been deployed in Iraq since May 2003.

Spc DuSang was killed on June 30, 2004, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, when the 5-ton vehicle in which he was riding suffered a tire blowout and overturned north of the Iraq–Kuwait border. He is now buried in the Mandeville Cemetery, Mandeville, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, USA. SPC DuSang has a street named after him.
