Julius Calvin Smith was born on January 7, 1926, in Halifax County, Virginia. He was the son of Byrd Walker Smith and Irene Virginia Snead Smith. He served in the 271st Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Smith died from his wounds received in battle on April 13, 1945, during the Battle of Wei�enfels in Germany. He is now buried in the Aarons Creek Cemetery, Virgilina, Halifax County, Virginia, USA.
