Albin J. Zima was born on September 30, 1918, in Brainard, Butler County, Nebraska. He was the son of Thomas Zima and Josephine Divis Zima. He served in the 5th Ranger Battalion as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.

SSgt Zima died from his wounds received in battle on September 4, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
