Samuel Williams was born on June 10, 1916, in Verona, Onslow County, North Carolina. He was the son of E. A. Williams and Idera Silance Williams. He served in Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.

SSgt Williams was Killed in Action on August 27, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the E.A. Williams Cemetery, Haws Run, Onslow County, North Carolina, USA.
