Walter Stanley Vilga was born on June 29, 1925, in Scalp Level, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Stanislaw "Stanley" Vilga and Rose Luma Vilga. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II.

Sgt Vilga was Killed in Action on August 29, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Saint John Cantius Catholic Church Cemetery, Windber, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA.
