Wilford Julius Vakoc was born on August 19, 1924, in Verdigre, Knox County, Nebraska. He was the son of Joseph Vakoc Jr. and Julia Vakoc. He enlisted in the service on June 8, 1943. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Vakoc was Killed in Action on September 2, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Eastwood IOOF Cemetery, Medford, Jackson County, Oregon, USA.
