James Trammell was born on March 8, 1922, in South Carolina. He was the son of Oliver T. Trammell and Emma Webb Trammell. He was married to Maybel Black Trammell. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Trammell was Killed in Action on August 13, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, Liberty, Pickens County, South Carolina, USA.
