Hurley Redman Silvey was born on September 21, 1916, in Vanceburg, Lewis County, Kentucky. He was married to Fannie Belle Cottingham Lewis. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Silvey was Killed in Action on August 29, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
