Ralph A. Shavkey was born on January 28, 1922, in Rockwood, Wayne County, Michigan. He was the son of Joseph Frederick "Fred" Shavkey and Martha Mary Burbo Shavkey. He enlisted in the service on January 9, 1944. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Shavkey was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, D�partement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
